Future Flight Design 2015

Team Vayuputras of AERO VJTI has made VJTI proud by earning a trophy by securing a 3rd rank in the international Future Flight Design Competition held in Turkey from 8th to 10th May, 2015. Future Flight Design is “an International Competition on Designing Aerial Robotic Vehicles for the Future” organized by Turkish Air Force Academy (TurAFA) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

There were a total of 49 participating teams, including air force academies, universities and high schools from countries such as France, China, Pakistan, Hungary, Romania.

The team, consisting of Dinesh Kene, Madhav More and Nimish Nadgere from Third year Btech Mechanical, not only stood 3rd in the overall competition but also secured 5th rank in the design report, scoring 90.67% in the report. The highlight of their triumph is the fact that they competed with participating teams from military institutions and designed the lightest aircraft model weighing just 1.46 kg.

We would like to thank our institute faculty and VJTI Alumni for their continued support and guidance, without which this mission could not have been accomplished!

This year’s theme was “UAV Mothership & Swarm”. The teams designed an unmanned mothership aircraft deploying a swarm of micro air vehicles (MAV) over the target area.

There were three missions.

Mission 1 was a flight with four 0.5 ml water-bottles weighting a total of more than 2 kg as internal payloads with the time to fly three laps as the score.

Mission 2 was a flight with 2 or 3 Micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (MAV's) to the target area and releasing them on each lap.

Mission 3 was a flight with maximum numbers of MAV's and releasing them one after another on the last lap over the target area.

TOTAL SCORE=(Mission 1 + Mission 2 + Mission 3) x Written Report Score / Empty Weight
